273 - Beyond the Bedside: Illuminating Physician Non-Clinical Contributions Through a Portfolio and Dashboard

Background: Hospital-based physicians often lack structured infrastructure to document professional development beyond clinical care. While clinical milestones are clear, capturing non-clinical contributions, wellness, and interpersonal growth is challenging. Division leaders struggle to access comprehensive data to guide annual reviews and feedback.

Objective: Develop a physician portfolio system that: 1) captures professional growth across multiple domains, 2) allows physicians to reflect on and showcase non-clinical contributions, and 3) provides actionable insights for division and hospital leadership during annual reviews.

Design/Methods: A multi-component portfolio was created, including continuing medical education (CME), 360° feedback on professionalism and interpersonal skills, non-clinical activities across defined categories, and wellness. In 2024, 135 physicians participated using Microsoft Forms and Excel, requiring individual dashboard creation. Feedback led to integration with REDCap for survey collection and a Power BI interactive dashboard in 2025, enabling individual, section, and hospital-level visualization.

Results: Annual documentation was completed in < 2 hours for 98% of participants in 2024 and 99% in 2025. Participant agreement that the portfolio supported reflection and showcased their work increased from 72.8% to 79%. Participation in annual review meetings facilitated by the portfolio increased from 84% to 92%. Examples of aggregate contributions captured in 2025 include 255 lectures, >230 simulation or skills lab participations, 27 publications, 112 quality improvement committee engagements, and 29 media presentations. Division heads reported the portfolio significantly enhanced discussions of professional growth, non-clinical contributions, and fulfillment.

Conclusion(s): Implementing a structured physician portfolio across clinical, professional, and wellness domains provides a scalable, efficient method to capture and showcase contributions beyond patient care. It enhances reflection, supports meaningful professional growth discussions, and strengthens annual review meetings by giving leadership a comprehensive view of physician achievements, non-clinical contributions, and personal development. Integration with interactive dashboards and iterative refinement further improves usability, engagement, and satisfaction for both physicians and division leaders.
