Of the 984 LPIs assessed for eligibility, 829 LPIs met the inclusion criteria. These infants were then stratified into two cohorts 1) growth-based status (SGA vs. non-SGA) and 2) time-based birth-years (2016-2018 vs 2019-2021) for temporal changes; 116 SGA vs. 713 non-SGA and 467 born on 2016-2018 vs. 362 born on 2019-2021, respectively (Fig 1).
SGA infants received less respiratory support including any respiratory support (19%) and CPAP (15%) compared to 35% and 29% in non-SGA infants, respectively (p < 0.001; Fig 2A). A decline in ACS use in the later birth cohort (2019-2021 vs. 2016-2018; p<0.001) was accompanied by a 2-fold increase in the incidence of RDS (Fig 2B).
Comparisons of maternal and infant Characteristics in all gestational age (GA; 34-36, 34-35, and 36 weeks) LPI groups according to their growth status (SGA vs. non-SGA), and their feeding outcomes, including their LOS (Table 1A). Comparisons of feeding outcomes in 34-36 weeks GA LPIs, including their LOS.
